LECMgt was invited to assist with the 2024 US Army Urban Warfare Planner Course. This course is designed to train military leaders in urban operations. For Army officers urban operations is more than just fighting in cities. It also involves civil affairs, restoring order, rebuilding infrastructure, and caring for displaced civilians.
The weeklong course brought students in contact with experts from around the world. The course was hosted by Brigadier General Rob Wooldridge of the 40th Infantry Division, California National Guard. There were over a hundred students representing the US Army, United Kingdom, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Canada, and the United Arab Emirates.
The capstone exercise was Brian Train’s Quick Urban Integrated Combat Kriegspiel wargame. Throughout the week students were trained to develop a course of action. On the final day their training was put to use by playing the game employing their plan. LECMgt team members Roger Mason and Joseph Miranda assisted as game facilitators. They interacted with the students and shared their experiences as game designers.
